One Night By The River…

Hand held out by the river side
A young little lass lay all drawn & tested
The moon spread its light that night
In the midst of the thicket and darkest night
What questions gnawed her mind & what answers did she seek?

Mysteries of the universe waiting to be revealed.
What cosmic puzzle & chance of fate
Had brought her to this undiscovered, hidden state.
The world she thought was a messed up river
Constantly in turmoil to the naked eye
Hiding treasures and secrets deep within
All calm and serene –laughing unbidden.

But who would take the dive on a stormy night
Seeking the inner world, beyond the obvious
What mad fool, would risk his life
Just to discover the meaning of being.

And what then would become of him-
Who jumped into the ocean on such a night?
Would he find his way back home some day or
Settle down in the new found land?
Can one exist on two planes and yet lead one life?
Many questions cropped that night – as she lay by the river hand held out.

A madman to the world – wandering between nothingness
For no more did he exist – than time or space
How could the drop not know itself
When drowned into the ocean of its being
His ramblings – made little sense
Except to those who knew no difference from him.
He spoke to himself & laughed out loud
While everybody were busy working around.

What purpose did they have and what did they seek
All busy leading a life – blissfully unaware of who they were.
And here she was, now by the river…following the path of the madman
Taking the plunge on a stormy night, in hope of finding the inner self.
No more questions did she have…nor answers did she seek
For the time had passed to Question Why
Now it was just to Do or Die !

Make thy death their very bride
This will make you cross any tide
For in the shadow of this advisor
Being emerges and makes the body wiser

Its not about doing or dying anymore
Life may sometimes seem like a long chore
What it seems to be a madman rambling
Are piecies of your being together scrambling

go ahead and dive deep in my friend
nothing to lose and life you will find
make what people call death your advisor
then Being emerges and makes the body wiser

be well

Why is death always seen as the ultimate counsel & advisor?
Why is death always so hyped up & made mysterious - isnt it as normal as life?
Infact i fail to see the difference between the two - they are one and the same...its just that in one there is a physical manifestation and in the other there isnt...everything else is constant.

Your poem holds many truths & shares several secrets... and for that my hearty thanks...for who can be a better mirror than the mirror of death itself & who better to hold that mirror other than a dear friend :)

Noor honey,

Beautiful poem-thank you for sharing your talent with us.

I think I understand this poem on a more personal level than some of the other poems I have read recently.

You know I have the exact same question as you - why is death so hyped up?

You know I used to be really scared of death - of dying and of what happens after that. I mean people have all kinds of ideas about heaven and hell, life after death, spirits wandering etc etc.

Most of these ideas come from institutional religions and since I dont believe in any religion or even in the existence of God (I think!) then I don't really subsrcibe to these ideas either.

I had the exact same thoughts last night and the minute I said to myself I don't think I believe in God, I crashed my head forcefully and paninfully (by accident) on my bookshelf. Now I wonder if that was a sign from 'God' asking me to be more careful of what I think and say??

Sanj ... u say the darnest things...Ofcourse u believe in God silly.

U just don’t like the idea of prescribing to one religion b'coz they are so preachy and most often look down upon other religions trying to glorify their own idea and concept of God. Besides they set some v ridiculous boundaries...and this is always done by fanatics...Hence people like u and me dislike them...but that does not mean that we don’t believe in the existence off a universal creator...The world calls him God...u & i may know him by a different name.

Anything that people know very little about or any concept that is vague is always hyped up !

Tons of Luv... N

SABA
LIFE FEEDS ON LIFE, AND THIS IS ONE FACT MOST POEPLE TRY TO AVOID.
ON THE WARRIOR PATH, MOST DECISIONS ARE MADE WITH THE END IN MIND
THE INTERETSING QUESTION IS NOT WHAT WILL YOU KILL/CONSUME (LIFE FEEDS ON LIFE) BUT WHAT ARE YOU CONSCIOULY WORKING ON MAKING YOURSELF WORTHY TO BE CONSUMED BY.
THINK ABOUT WHAT I HAVE SAID.

Why is death always so hyped up & made mysterious - isnt it as normal as life?
YES IT IS NORMAL, ITS NOT HYPED, TO THE CONTRARY NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE PAY ENOUGH ATTENTION TO THIS ABSOLUTLY INEVITABLE ASPECT OF LIFE. LIFE EXISTS ONLY BECUASE OF DEATH.

SANJU
ITS NOT ABOUT HYPE, ITS ABOUT FEAR, THAT WHICH ONE DOES NOT KNOW "INTIMATLY" ONE FEARS, AND THUS HYPES. DOES THIS BRING POLITICIANS AND GDMEN/RELIGIOUS PEOPLE TO MIND.
DEATH SAANJU IMO IS ONE OF THE FEW CONSTANTS IN EVERYONES LIFE, THE QUESTION ONLY IS HOW YOU CHOOSE TO EMBRACE IT

FINALLY ENOUGH THOUGH YOU DONT KNOW SWAMI WHATEVER HIS NAME IS, OR THE FLYING CARPETS OF RAAAMYANAA MAY SEEM CRAZY, YOU KNOW DEEP DOWN YOU DO BELIEVE IN GOD/INTELLIGENCE... HEHE THINK ABOUT IT....

Poems & good , Poems are fine,
But first delve in & find the Divine,
Then u can better write & paraphrase,
And not be in this mindless haze.

Hehe.

Well regarding the views on religion, I am sorry to intrude onto your conversation people, but I feel it is not the religions themselves trying to glorify themselves but rather the "Heads of the so called religious instituitions" doing a lot of Nakra.

Religions to many set what is true by how the things are defined
These definitions and their messiahs then bring you within to be confined
Once within these walls, reality is now controlled from without
The expanse and freedom can only be garnered again by the within
It is the YOU that has the control switch
to go from without to within, without a glitch
Some say hermit you have to become
some say madness is how its done

Hi there,

I found your website through your comments on Mahi's blog.

Very interesting poem...I am fascinated by the different reactions it seems to have drawn from its readers.

When I read your poem, it echoed something I passionately believe in...that is "Action speaks louder than words". Too often us humans spend time "talking" about what we want from life, what the world should be like...what is wrong with it...what our politicians should be doing...etc. It is only a handful of people who actually jump in and act on their beliefs and words.

Anyway...I like the way you think...

Regards,
Jaya

Hi Jaya...really nice to see that the blog bug has got u too and many thnx for ur comment.
I neither believe in words nor actions Jaya...for they are just different ways of expressing to the world what u believe in or stand up for - but I have no such desire. I merely want to exist, that’s all. I blog because it is the call of the moment, nothing more...It is others who give my words meanings and interpretations.

I dont care for ppl who act out aloud their views - it’s just a cry for attention…not that it is wrong. The ppl who actually exist are nonentities - its v v v hard to find them and that’s what i want to be - A Non Entity…but I hv a long long way to go …for by stating what I just did, I already have a desire.!

death is the ultimate reality for it is the door to the deathless to that which is beyond the living and the dying...
